The 2017 edition of Art Basel in Hong Kong, a massive Swiss art fair, has scheduled to commemorate the late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.
The event that is one of the premier events of the international art world will be held on March 23-25, the Variety wrote.
This edition of Art Basel which is slated to go to Hong Kong will put Kiarostami’s final photography series on display.
Kiarostami is a multitalented artist and an exceptional man who joyfully embraced life. He was winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’, passing away on July 4, 2016.
He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator and graphic designer.
The cinematic works by the internationally acclaimed filmmaker have been hailed by various festivals around the world.
Several prestigious festivals and film events have already honored the noted Iranian director as well as paying homage to Kiarostami by presenting retrospectives of his works.
Art Basel is an international art fair with four shows staged every year in Switzerland’s Basel, Florida’s Miami Beach, Florida’s Wynwood Art District in Miami, and Hong Kong.
Each show is organized into sectors which showcase contemporary artworks by established and newly emerging artists, in addition to the artworks shown by participating galleries.
Art Basel provides a platform for galleries to show and sell their work to collectors, museum directors, curators, and it attracts a large international audience of art spectators and students.
